Alex’s practice includes patent disputes in the pharmaceutical sector, telecoms and petrochemical sectors, his work highlights include:

  • Assisting in the cross-border coordination (with litigation in over 20 countries) for a major pharmaceutical patent dispute.
  • Acting for a biotechnology company in relation to its defence of an entitlement challenge to a patent concerning the in-vitro synthesis of DNA.
  • Acting for an electronics company in patent infringement proceeding relating to a standard essential telecoms patent and associated FRAND licensing litigation.
  • Acting for a wellbore navigation company in its revocation claim against a patent for methods of measuring tortuosity in oil well boreholes.

Alex is particularly interested in the interface of IP and competition law, and he recently won the Competition Law Association’s Golding Essay Prize 2024.

Alex is actively involved in Bristows’ inclusion and social mobility programmes, where he has regularly participated in the annual Joe Sako Summer Workshops.
