The subject matter of Jonathan’s work has been wide ranging. In the technology sector he has acted in proceedings concerning wind turbines and telecoms, along with the related FRAND issues. In the life sciences sector, his PhD in organic chemistry and protein structure has been invaluable on disputes on small molecules, antibodies, and the manufacture of therapeutic DNA.

Some of Jonathan’s work highlights include:

  • Acting for a generic client in UK patent litigation in the High Court and Court of Appeal concerning the validity of the compound patent for a blockbuster anticoagulant.
  • Advising an originator client in UK and Dutch proceedings concerning the validity of a paediatric extension to an SPC.
  • Acting for a UK biotechnology company in patent entitlement proceedings concerning the rights to the production of a novel, synthetic DNA vector.
  • Advising a wind turbine manufacturer in High Court proceedings regarding the infringement and validity of a patent concerning the ability of wind turbines to withstand grid voltage drops.
  • Advising a client in the FMCG sector on freedom to operate for new products.

Jonathan also has international experience, having spent four months on secondment at a boutique firm in Amsterdam.
